Data Analyst, Asset Strategy & Optimization
The "Asset Strategy & Optimization" team is chartered with optimizing the cost and utilization of all hardware for the Facebook.com website, one of the largest in the industry. We are looking for a strong team player who can lead automation efforts and provide metrics by implementing dashboards, scripting through SQL and/or PHP, learn to create user interfaces and tools to optimize and scale a program that reduces opex and capex costs.
In this role you will work cross functionally with all Infrastructure and Finance teams understanding financial impacts, data quality, and disposal of gear that surrounds the management of hardware assets. Successful candidates for this team have a bias toward action, enjoy finding patterns amid chaos, making quick decisions, and are up for a challenge.
Responsibilities
Work with internal technical operations teams to define metrics, automate data collection, synthesize relevant data, build analytical models and forecasts
Leverage tools like SQL, Hadoop, R, PHP, Python, Oracle, and Excel to drive efficient analytics and reporting and performing data extraction from mysql/oracle/hive leveraging an extremely large data set
Perform and report logical audits of datacenter server hardware to ensure accurate data for business reporting. This includes collaborating with Datacenter Logistics to compare against physical audits and drive changes to systems or processes
Analyze data to identify trends to drive scalable solution
Help with data reconciliation efforts needed to ensure a clean baseline data set
Create and/or assist in the creation of data dashboards related to asset utilization, end of life, data accuracy
Support decommissioning cycles with identifying hardware for disposal, repurposing or remarketing to ensure maximum value received for hardware
Create or update SQL tables as required
Requirements
BA/BS degree or Technology experience of 2+ year
Strong Excel and SQL skills
Strong in statistics fundamentals, set theory and relational algebra
Preferred
Experience of 2+ years of programming and/or SQL
Demonstrated problem solving ability with experience providing practical business insights from large, complex data sets
Experience in Technical Operations department desired
Understanding Datawarehousing concepts, ETL, OLAP vs. OLTP, Slowly Changing Dimensions a big plus
Reporting / Dashboarding with any BI tool (Microstrategy, Tableau, Business Objects etc.) a plus
Understanding of servers, storage and/or hardware that supports a large scale website
Experience with at least 1 scripting language(C++, JAVA, PHP, PERL, PYTHON etc.) desired
Provide strong interpersonal skills while acting under diverse roles: liaison, consultant, leader, peer, owner, customer, etc.
Able to work in an extremely high volume, high energy environment
