Data Architect job at McAfee

Job Description

This is a senior position that gives you the opportunity to be a leader on a growing “Big Data” team at McAfee. You will be working as part of the McAfee Labs Data Team, which is responsible for developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that acquires, holds, analyzes, and distributes mission-critical data about current and evolving malware threats. You will work with McAfee research and product teams to use our massive repository of security data and the latest Big Data technologies to combat increasingly sophisticated malware and become part of the heart of McAfee’s future anti-malware strategy.This position will report into the Director of the McAfee Labs Data Team.

Key Responsibilities:

Determine data strategy for a number of very large repositories of security data accumulating data from many sources
Create coherent data model for governance and lifecycle of that data
Work with internal customers to understand semantics of source data and determine appropriate data persistence, processing and query strategies
Select storage technologies and platforms
Design several large data repositories to support chosen data strategies, lead implementation and operation of these strategies
Determine and execute data migration strategy from existing set of data repositories into newly designed repositories
Design and implement appropriate quality gates and normalizations for data entering repositories
Design and lead implementation of multi-geographic, redundant, unstructured data storage and retrieval system that operates in a high-availability fashion
Work closely with product, engineering and data mining teams on requirements, engineering specifications and implementations to support their data needs
Refactor, normalize and cleanse existing data

Qualifications
Required Experience/Skills & Education:

Proven success in designing and executing “big data” implementation projects
Experience with large scale data migrations and capacity planning
Experience with Hadoop and MongoDB
Experience with a variety of data repositories from unstructured/NoSQL to SQL databases
Experience designing data quality strategies and metrics
Experience with large (multiple terabyte) data sets, preferably in the computer security domain
Experience designing and/or building applications that consume data from “big data” repositories preferred
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2012 preferred), in particular SQL queries and reporting
Hands-on experience developing data migration and quality tooling using a variety of approaches (e.g. general purpose computing languages like C#, scripting languages, domain-specific tooling)
Communication and collaboration skills to work with a varied set of internal customers and reconciling their data requirements
