Position Summary

We’re looking for a dynamic and technically skilled Data Scientist to join our growing Data Intelligence team. In this high-impact role, you’ll be at the heart of data operations powering public affairs and political campaigns that make a difference.

This is more than just a back-end role—you’ll lead the charge on managing large datasets, streamlining data flows, and ensuring every insight is rooted in clean, reliable data. From end-to-end ownership of our BigQuery data warehouse to hands-on integration of outreach platforms like PDI, call systems, and texting tools, you'll play a critical part in bringing strategic clarity to complex campaign efforts.

We’re looking for someone who thrives at the intersection of data engineering and project management—someone who can write elegant SQL queries, configure APIs, and still keep meeting agendas sharp and project timelines on track. If you’re fluent in Python, R, SQL, and equally comfortable coordinating with stakeholders and building data infrastructure, this is the opportunity to make a real impact.

 

Responsibilities:

 

General Administrative Support

  • Draft and refine agendas across workstreams

  • Manage calendars and timelines to align with key deliverables

  • Coordinate with teams and stakeholders to keep projects on track

  • Track progress, deadlines, and stakeholder updates

Data Warehouse Management

  • Lead end-to-end BigQuery infrastructure: architecture, access, and performance

  • Manage and integrate large datasets; standardize schemas and data types

  • Automate data flows using SQL, R, Python, and Google Apps Script

  • Schedule and monitor ETL processes; troubleshoot data pipeline issues

Manage Outreach Systems

  • PDI: Oversee workflows (survey → universe → reporting), set up surveys and flags, run counts, and sync to BigQuery

  • Call System: Manage setup (PDI → list → system), configure scripts, support users, and upload calling flags

  • Texting Platform: Handle end-to-end setup, coordinate test messages, manage opt-outs, and sync data to BigQuery

Programming

  • Use RStudio and Python for data cleaning, modeling, and transformation

  • Build and maintain ETL processes with BigQuery, SQL, R, and Google Apps Script

  • Run machine learning models and custom scripts

  • Manage automated scripts via Google Cloud and GitHub

  • Model large datasets (e.g., CA voter file) and deliver actionable insights

Quality Control Processes

  • Monitor platform performance and data accuracy

  • Conduct regular QC checks on dashboards, pipelines, and integrations

  • Troubleshoot syncing and flag issues; document fixes and updates

API Integrations

  • Perform and maintain REST API integrations across systems

  • Schedule data syncs between external tools and the data warehouse

  • Ensure platform compatibility and real-time data flow

Reporting

  • High level of proficiency working with tableau configuration from front end to back end

  • Extensive capabilities and knowledge in building tableau-manufactured datasets that maximize usability of tableau functions and capabilities (setting up the dataframe to be conducive for filters, table calculations, groups, sets, pages, etc.)

  •  Utilize tableau to portray program lifecycles and impact assessments, narrating the story from a data perspective with actionable analytical insights

  • Prepare presentation materials with actionable insights for internal and external audiences, including senior leaders, partners, and funders

  • Presenting data insights in a visually effective and sensible to a non technical audience

  • Maintain and frequently QC check dashboards are running smoothly 

Telling Stories with Data

  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights

  • Collaborate with comms and program teams to frame findings effectively

  • Apply visual best practices to maximize clarity and engagement

Survey & Data Management

  • Create and manage surveys using Google Forms, Typeform, etc.

  • Align survey content with program goals and timelines

  • Analyze trends, generate insights, and recommend improvements

  • Integrate survey data into BigQuery and dashboards for real-time visibility

 

 

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in data analytics, statistics, computer science, or related field. Experience in BI, campaign analytics, or ops support preferred.

  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in SQL, R, Python, Google Apps Script. Required: BigQuery, Google Cloud, GitHub, ETL pipeline management. Preferred: Tableau, API integrations, survey tools (Typeform, Google Forms).

  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong verbal/written skills. Able to translate data for diverse audiences and collaborate across teams, clients, and partners.

  • Project & Systems Management: Skilled in managing timelines, automation, and technical systems (PDI, texting/call tools, survey platforms).

  • Data Management & QC: Experienced with large datasets, schema standardization, survey pipelines, and real-time dashboard accuracy.

  • Problem Solving & Adaptability:Proactive troubleshooter, quick learner, and systems thinker—comfortable in fast-paced, campaign environments.

  • Visualization & Storytelling: Able to build and maintain dashboards (Tableau or similar), applying design best practices for clarity and impact.
    Stakeholder Coordination: Experienced in aligning with teams and clients to refine tools, deliver insights, and drive data-informed decisions.

 

 

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 per year (depending on experience), with opportunities for upward mobility within the company.
