Deputy Data Scientist

Job Description

You will be one of two data scientists working to build custom tools, primarily in Python, to automate a variety of data reporting and analytics functions in partnership with 1-2 front-end developers. You will be given a great deal of autonomy to be creative in thinking of and developing new features for meeting both internal and client-facing needs in a relaxed and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities fall into two broad categories - development and data analysis / reporting.

They include maintaining and building tools in Python, MySQL, and Django to automate data reporting and predictive analytics, as well as contributing to and creating client deliverables (memos, reports and conference call participation) regarding fundraising performance and experiment results.

Familiarity with Python and SQL is essential - Django, SQLAlchemy, JavaScript, PHP and other languages are a big plus.

Development:

• Analytics

  • Develop new programmatic ways of analyzing data and pulling information from existing datasets and vendor databases;

  • Pursue the acquisition of new data through new and creative channels;

  • Use and improve existing methods of analyzing data to maintain efficiency in fundraising tactics;

• Automation

  • Automate repetitive processes to save time and eliminate propensity for user error and personal boredom;

  • Create programmatic ways to produce internal and client-facing deliverables;

• Data Management System

  • Work with Development Team to audit and advise regarding tools being built into our internal data management system;

  • Develop new tools from scratch via Python and other languages;

  • Maintain data integrity while integrating automatic processes in data management system;

  • Assist in bug squashing and roll out of features, as well as conception of ideas for further extension of the platform;
    

Data Analysis / Reporting:

• Quality Checking

  • Field questions from co-workers and clients regarding fundraising results in a timely manner

  • Follow up on potential data integrity issues and correct them as needed

• Client Facing Deliverables

  • Conduct analysis and issue recommendations regarding fundraising strategy and tactics

  • Describe relevant evidence and reasoning in text and graphical format

• Data Administration

  • Maintain the global list of email addresses for clients

  • Monitor list growth to ensure up to date list composition

  • Execute data swaps and other inter-firm transactions regarding client data

• Reporting

  • Report on email fundraising numbers for weekly internal meeting and client calls

  • Report on digital paid media performance

  • Report out to clients various metrics upon request
